Just as i mentioned before, I wend along with the plan to get inspiration from this double page spread...
This was my outcome...
I have tried to make 'ChronicWave' in the similar way that 'Jamelia' was created. I added a bit of edge to it by using the style of font.
If you take time to read the article, you will notice the questions that I have taken from previous interviews that I have watched. I also decided to change the colour of the font to blue, so identify the question to the answers...
Similar to other double pages; I have decided to quote the artist, and add a few of them around the page to catch the audiences attention. I had to choose wisely about which quotes to choose in order to some up the interview in a whole.
Before writing my interview, I had watch a few to have an idea of what questions they ask; I wouldn't want to be waffling now...
Although the person i researched is not music artist, he is related to music as a dancer. I chose to watch him because I knew i would have a lot of interest in listening to the whole interview as he is one of my inspirations. So, here it is...
Besides enjoying watching the interview, I was able to pick up on a few subjects that the interviewer asking Brian, and i thought i would include them in my interview, these were;
-How did you get started? -Who is your inspiration? -Did you expect to get this far? -Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
And to top it off, since we're on the subject of Brian Puspos..... enjoy a dance video from him (:
I knew i wanted to create a double page spread that included an interview; or else, what else was i going to write about....
Here are a few double page spreads i came across whilst searching for some inspiration;
This particular front cover got to my attention because of the big bold 'USA', i thought it was clever how the editor made this highlighting the central image. There is a minimal use of colour, which keeps in simple yet works extremely well.
With this, I like how they used the quote as the title, although there is minimal writing, the quote that was chosen would have summarised the whole article. I also like how the photo overlaps the page, creating an edgy look for the whole double page.
This was the double page spread that i thought of using as inspiration for my final one; I like how the editor has used the range on photo's and the layout of the text to all fit in place, with out it looking too busy. The use of colours all flowed together, and the big 'JAMELIA' automatically catches the readers attention to realise who the article is about.
I used a few of my current media class mates to help me out with this; I asked them to pose in front of the camera as a famous 'rapstar'.
I particularly enjoyed this as I was able to create my own type of photoshoot, luckily I found someone who was willing to play the rapper.
I thought from the way he was dressed, and the way he poses; he would make a perfect example of the modern rappers in these days. I chose to work with a plain background so when it came to editing it on the computer, it will be much easier to add effects.
When choosing poses to work with, I had already researched on different types by other rappers these days; here are a few...
UK rapper Tinie Tempah was a good example, and good inspiration for the shoot. I was aiming for the more simpler poses that still recognises them as a rapper.
It took a while to find the perfect image for a front cover to my magazine. I had to make sure, colour wise, it was interesting to ensure that had a lot of colours to work and play with when it got to designing the headlines.
This is the image I took of a friend whilst at a house party. Originally, I had edited the background out of interest, but felt it didn't suit the magazin cover, so i cropped the image out.
This particular image included a lot of colours that i could work with. such as the Green and Purple, I felt that this allowed me to make my front cover more attractive.
The magazine i took inspirtation from was VIBE here is an example of one;
Here the colour RED has been used, and all together it works well.
I have colour coordinated the fonts according to the colours on this shirt.
I decided to name my Rap magazine 'Rap It Up'.
I thought I'd play around with the words, and create something that is easy to remember and something my target audience would immediently understand.
I explored different fonts on the website and came across one here;
I then manipulated the text on photoshop, and came up with a intersting effect.
The rough effect that it has related to the world of Rap, and i felt that it was perfect to do this as the title is stil legible. Looking through current magazines, in Vibe, they usually have a fade on the title, this is something i took inspiration from and included in my own title.
I asked a few people in he class of their opinion, and this is what there feedback was;
'It looks different from other magazines, so if i saw it i would immediately spot what magazine it was'
'It looks really decorative without being illegible, it is also attractive to it almost becomes a bland name, that you could maybe futher develop onto tshirts, cd's and so on....'
I decided to include some of my favourite youtube rappers, as it was from them that i got the inpiration to do 'Rap' on...
